Slouching

Have you ever been told not to slouch? Slouching is one of the most common postural habits that most people don’t even realize that they are doing. We have lost our kinesthetic awareness of slouching and do not see it anymore. Even just a little habitual slouching destructively impacts postural alignment, joints and body mechanics.

Slouching is the body’s default position when it drops or collapses down. There is no where else to go.

Basic Slouch definition –  The chest is down and the head is up.

Slouching Chain Reaction
Downward force compresses the spine
Chest squeezes inward
To round the upper back(hunch)
The head/neck pokes forward
The head retracts back
Pelvis/hips to tuck forward.

Effect of Chronic Slouching – even just a little
Exerts a downward force to compress the spine
Twists and countertwists the body
Blocks the upward functioning of the Mitzvah Mechanism.

“Research suggests people with good posture have more confidence in their thoughts than slouchers” – O Magazine
